Mandate that marriage certificate applicants affirm that they are not using marriage to circumvent immigration laws. Reference: HB 578, HB 691, HB 1377, SB 47

Jesse Gore = (6) I would introduce this as the main author

Tryon Lewis = (5) I would co-author this as legislation

Randy Rives = (6) I would introduce this as the main author

Buddy West = (3) I would try to get this out of committee with a favorable recommendation

What are they doing, marrying to get citizenship?

That's one problem. I read an article not too long ago where one woman, in Florida I think, had married something like 10 men at a fee of $2500 a pop. Then there's websites telling them to find a man, marry him, then charge him with spouse abuse. There's a law that gives victims involved in a crime automatic citizenship. So the man gets stripped of his money via a false charge of spouse abuse through a divorce and the woman gets citizenship and his money to live on.

What do they mean by affirm? Is that the same affirmation the illegals are using on their voter registration to affirm they are a citizen? And then nobody checks it out?
